I've been playing around with the settings of my new smaller digital camera. I'm still not used to it, this picture came out darker than I wanted The colors aren't as vivid, but I think the clarity & sharpness is pretty good. What do you think?

I think you're correct, the sharpness and detail is very good. What camera did you buy?
Believe it or not I took back a small olympus - Stylus 300 Digital for a fuji finepix a330. This camera gives me a bit more manual control the olympus didn't give me anything. I didn't want to spend much and needed a small portable camera for my vacation trip. I wish I bought it sooner so I could have gotten more use to prior to my trip. I don't like how my pictures came out as much, but I'm still playing around with the settings.
